The Jetty - A meeting place on the water

The Project
On behalf of Luleå council, the project “Årets Stadskärna” [City Centre of the Year] has been conducted during a time period ranging from September 2019 until January 2020. The mission has been to use industrial design to improve the city centre of Luleå and help the city win the award Årets Stadskärna [City Centre of the Year]. This award is presented by Svenska Stadskärnor for cities that have conducted successful development of the city centre through major advancements in innovating the city centre, and through collaboration between both private and public sectors. Place innovation has been central throughout the project, which has followed an Inspiration-Ideation-Implementation process. Methods such as interviews, benchmarking, brainstorming and workshops have been used to reach the final result. The result of the project is a 2900 m2 jetty that functions as a floating town square in Norra Hamn in Luleå. The concept, which is called “Bryggan” [The Jetty], includes a café, seating, lighting, space for vegetation and areas for activities. In an area that today lacks space, The Jetty offers Luleå a meeting place which can be used by residents and visitors as well as businesses and investors.
On The Jetty there is...
...seatings...
...nature...
...lighting...
...food and drinks...
...and other elements
